 Our Procedures

The Ushers / Greeters are official representatives of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church

  • Ushers Greeters arrive 20 to 30 minutes prior to scheduled Mass
  • Control traffic and offer direction as to prevent a log jam at front door
  • Welcome the Parishioners at the door
    • Hand out prayer missals and song sheets as parishioners arrive
  • Be proactive at ushering
    • Assist parishioners to open available seats before Mass starts
    • Encourage them to sit around the altar rather than spread out in the back
    • Hold latecomers at the door during the readings and until after the Homily. Then assist them to open seats
    • Hold parishioners at the end of Mass until the Priest exits

  • There are 9 aisles. 4 for approaching the altar and 5 for returning to the seats. Please review the floor plan.
  • Team Captain assigns Ushers Greeters to their aisle of responsibility
    • We assign 8 Ushers/Greeters per Mass - 2 per aisle. Team Captains have authority to adjust based on attendance
  • Team Captain picks a family to carry the gifts at the Offertory
  • The Offertory
    • Allocate 4 baskets per aisle, which is 2 per Usher
    • Pass out baskets every other aisle and retrieve in kind.
    • Put collected money into the large Offertory basket to be taken up with the gifts
  • The Peace Offering
    • Circulate around the Church and offer peace to the Parishioners on behalf of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church
  • Direct the Parishioners for Communion
    • Each Usher directs traffic from his or her assigned area aisle by aisle
    • The parishioners standing in the rear should be directed down one of the aisles.
    • If there is a Parishioner who cannot walk up to Communion under their own power, ask one of the Eucharistic Ministers to serve Communion to that Parishioner after the rest of the Church is complete
  • Clean up after Mass
    • Collect the missals and song sheets
    • Straighten chairs
  • Team Captain to make sure the collection is bagged and given to the Priest
    • There is a white bag tagged for each specific Mass
  • Enforce all the rules and regulations on respect and decorum as set forth by Fr. Paul
  • Dress in dark slacks with a white/light shirt and wear your nametag
  • Ask parents to escort children to the bathroom. Children should not go alone
  • Tactfully review the garments of the parishioners. Especially those provocatively dressed
  • Participate in the Liturgy and songs out loud. The Parishioners will follow your lead. Fr. Paul likes to have a lot of energy at Mass. We need to assist him in gaining Parishioner participation & cooperation. Be enthusiastic!
