  Father Paul's Vision
The Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, wrote a pastoral letter entitled "Dies Domini" - The Day of the Lord.  In it he gives a wonderful catechesis on the observance of the Lord's Day.  He makes a point on how we keep Sunday and notes that attendance at Mass, while the heart of the day, is by no means the only or the adequate activity to sanctify, to make holy this day.

The Holy Father outlines a vision of family worship in the parish Mass, a meal together, abstention from work and chores, time spent in family recreation, sports, cultural activities and the practice of the works of mercy, especially the visiting of the sick, elderly and shut in.

My vision is that we make a concerted effort to carry out this Lord's Day practice as a St. Katharine Drexel parish family, just as individual families are doing each Sunday.

The St. Katherine Drexel Feast Day Celebration establishes us as a praying, celebrating, responding parish family.

I would like to specify several guidelines:  we are looking to have as many people as possible with anyone and everyone feeling welcome.  I want to see a festive Mass.  Then we eat together and we have fun together.  Psalm 103 makes mention of the whales that God created "to have fun" - we can imagine that both God and the whales had fun.

The Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, founded by St. Katharine Drexel, will be sending a representative to us.  As per the pastoral council's consensus, we will be donating half of Feast Day Sunday collection to their ministry, no strings attached.

Let's make it a heck of a wonderful day!
