Pastor’s Message

My Dear Friends,

Our Lord has told us: “Where two or more are gathered in my name, there am I.” Jesus is truly present when we celebrate the Eucharist, every day of the week. The time has come for us to build a permanent home for worship, for learning and for praying; a house of prayer for all people.

Our new home will require all of us to invest our time, talent and treasure. Together and with the Lords help; we will raise the funds necessary to build our new home. We all must commit to this effort now. We the parishioners of Saint Katharine Drexel parish family must truly exhibit the Spirit of the Eucharist, “The Total Gift of Self.” Can we count on you?

 May God Bless You!

Fr. Pedro

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where are we building?

Our 18.73 acres of land is located on South Post Road between Windmill Reserve and Weston Regional Park adjacent to the new Weston maintenance facility.

What are we building?

Our building project consists of three (3) phases. Phase One is site preparation and construction of a multipurpose facility approximately 30,000 sq. ft. in size that will seat 1000 parishioners with overflow space to accommodate 700 more.  In addition, there are classrooms, administrative offices, a chapel, reception areas, reflection areas, kitchen and storage. Ample parking is planned with the possibility of adding an infant care, toddler and pre-school.  Phase Two consists of building our K thru 8 elementary school.  Phase Three consists of constructing our church building.

What is the building timeline?

Phase One is underway. Architectural and engineering planning along with environmental studies must be completed prior to actual commencement of building the structure. This process involves an Environmental Study, Preliminary Design, Site Planning, Design Review, Bidding & Negotiation and then Permitting & Construction. Phase One will take approximately 3 to 4 years to complete.

Will there be a Rectory?

Our Rectory is located in the Ridges. There are no current plans to move it.

When are we building?

Our current lease will expire in March 2010. We have the provision for 2 one-year extensions. We must be out no later than March 2012. Construction must start by 2010, which requires us to raise the funds now to build.

What will Phase One Cost?

The current estimate for completion of Phase One is $9 million. The Archdiocese requires $4.5 million (50%) of these funds to be raised prior to starting construction.

How is the Archdiocese assisting us?

The Archdiocese is loaning our parish the funds for the initial preparation of the process. Ultimately, we will be responsible for funding the entire project.

How will the funds be raised?

Funds are raised by contributions from our parishioners and those in our parish community. We need your participation now. Don’t wait to be asked. Donate today! Starting in April 2007, there will be a series of events to accent the urgency of building our new parish home.

Are we looking for corporate, foundation, grants or awards to assist in the funding?

Yes, we are actively seeking assistance from outside sources. If you are aware of a benefactor organization or would like to create your own foundation endowment, please contact Fr. Pedro or any member of the Cornerstone Group.

Can we use contractors from our parish community to provide services?

Parishioners, who are licensed contractors, may bid or donate their services to the Church. Please contact Fr. Pedro or any member of the Cornerstone Group.

What should I do now?

Fill out and submit the commitment card today. Start contributing weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, annually or in one lump sum.  We accept payment by cash, check automatic debit or credit card. You may also add Saint Katharine Drexel Church to your will.
